History of Board Members

Since 1971, 15 SLPA members have served as president, many serving multiple terms.  Over the years, the number of officers and titles have changed, but the roles have been fairly consistent:

• The President chairs the Board of Directors, and often assumes responsibility for Legal Affairs
• The Vice President has historically not had specific duties associated with the role, but occasionally takes on ad-hoc assignments. Going forward, the VP will be responsible for member services and advocacy.
• The Secretary keeps the Association records and is responsible for official correspondence. The secretary has often been responsible for all communication and outreach, but sometimes another officer chairs the Public Affairs Committee.
• The Treasurer manages the books and is responsible for all financial aspects of Association affairs. The Treasurer is now assisted by an accountant who handles receipts and payments. The Treasurer also chairs the Finance Committee.
• The Facilities Manager has had many titles, as has the Maintenance & Improvements Committee (Roads, Operations, Oversight, Maintenance, Projects). At times, the Improvements component has been managed by a separate committee, but now they are combined.
• The Legal or Policy Committee Chair has generally been appointed only when an ongoing need has arisen for coordination with our legal counsel or to revise one of our governing instruments (e.g. Bylaws).
• The Security Committee Chair coordinates one of several discretionary services provided by the Board. These and other member services are now being coordinated by the Vice President.
